Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actress who is known for her role as the fiery lawyer Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent since childhood. In a Maryland high school contest gave her the top actress prize. The path to acting began when she worked in the Washington Ballet Company as well as the theater. Contractor who was born in Mumbai and resided in Nigeria over seven years, had a wide range of trips and experiences in the world of culture at an early age. At the age of seven through nine, she went to boarding school in London. The family later moved to Toronto where she lived through the majority of her childhood. Contractor had a great academic career throughout her time in Toronto and also trained as ballerina. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized high school that teaches arts which allowed her to not just study theater but danced too. Contractor began acting at age 16, following nearly 10 years in dance. After she had completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Following a year at University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the show Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the lead role. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance during 92 performances of Pericles. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight women are able to take the 20-week crash training in classical theater. Contractor was guaranteed a spot for the upcoming season of plays and landed the role of Hermia In A Midsummer Night's Dream.
